Chesterfield's Loris wins Hotel Cateys title

13 November 2008

Loris Lucchini from The Chesterfield in Mayfair scooped the Heinz Foodservice-sponsored Hotel Restaurant Manager of the Year Award at this year's Hotel Cateys.

The ecstatic winner, who has also worked at the revered Savoy, was presented with his trophy at a glittering ceremony at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel on November 7th.

According to judges, he ticked all the boxes. "He stood out for his passion and enthusiasm for his role," said one. "His management ethic also impressed, taking the time to regularly speak to his team one on one. Crucially, he is also proactive about driving revenue."

He added that running a hotel restaurant was tougher than running a restaurant in its own right, and Loris had done incredibly well in a very challenging environment. "Mayfair has a plethora of well-established restaurants, so the success of Butlers, which is relatively tucked away, is a particular achievement. The fact he has generated ongoing interest in a hotel dining concept really impressed us." "His classical skills from his years at The Savoy are shared with staff and customers, bringing gueridon and flambé work to the restaurant, something you don't see much of these days.

Loris beat finalists Russell Cocks from the Pearl Restaurant & Bar Renaissance, Chancery Court, London, Bruno Lucchi from The Midland Hotel, Manchester, and Hannah Aldridge from Malmaison, Manchester, to the accolade.

As with the Cateys, known as the industry Oscars, contenders for Hotel Cateys were nominated, selected and recognised by judging panels of their industry peers.

Heinz Foodservice backed Hotel Restaurant Manager of the Year in a bid to reward those give their very best to achieve excellence in the hospitality sector.
